Truss and grid are the two most commonly used forms of steel structure space structure, both are the mesh composition form of steel structure. What is the main difference between truss and grid? Next, the editor of Jiangsu Huahai Steel Structure will introduce the difference between them.

Different in nature

A truss is a structure in which rods are connected by hinges at both ends. The grid is a spatial structure formed by multiple rods connected by nodes in a certain grid form.

Different composition

The basic units that make up the grid are triangular pyramids, triangular prisms, cubes, truncated quadrangular pyramids and so on. The truss is composed of straight rods and generally has a plane or space structure with triangular elements. The truss rods mainly bear axial tension or pressure.

Different design requirements

The truss must have rods that meet the requirements, and there must be good connections, including rivets, pins, and weld connections. The bar section of the grid structure should be determined according to the calculation of strength and stability.
